Although both use a movable trolley (bogie) for loading and unloading, a bogie hearth furnace and a trolley type oven are designed for different temperature ranges and industrial applications.

A bogie hearth furnace is used for high-temperature heat treatment of metals, where the objective is to alter the metallurgical properties of the material. A trolley type oven is used for low- to medium-temperature process heating, such as drying, curing, baking, ageing, preheating, and moisture removal.

A bogie hearth furnace can be used to heat components prior to quenching. However, for dedicated quenching applications, a purpose-built quenching furnace is the recommended solution.

Quenching requires rapid transfer of the heated workpiece to the quenching medium to achieve the desired hardness and metallurgical properties. Dedicated quenching furnaces are specifically designed to minimize transfer time, improve process repeatability, and ensure consistent heat treatment results.

A dedicated quenching furnace offers several advantages:
